6 Srilankans Deported from Australia Arrested by CID

In a statement earlier today Immigration Minister Dutton said, ‘This return shows that there has not been, and will not be, any change to Australia’s robust border protection policies.’ Australian media reported that the six men aboard were assessed as being economic refugees and returned to Sri Lanka.
The Criminal Investigation Division has arrested 6 persons return from Australia after attempting illegally enter the country.
Police said the suspects are scheduled to be produced before the Negombo Magistrates Court today.
Australian Immigration Minister Peter Dutton said officials found the boat after Sri Lanka passed on intelligence about the people-smuggling venture.
The Sri Lanka Police said six persons were repatriated after Australian authorities intercepted their boat. The suspects, residents of Valaichchenai are between the age 24 and 43 years.
