President Maithripala Sirisena at New York

President Maithripala Sirisena, who is currently in New York to attend the 71st United Nations General Assembly is scheduled to participate in the ‘Clinton Global Initiative’ as a special guest.
The Head of State is scheduled to speak at the High-Level Event on Open Government Partnership with several leading nations at the UN Headquarters tomorrow.
The President’s Media Division said President Sirisena will call on Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, US Secretary of State John Kerry, Indian Minister of State for External Affairs MJ Akbar and Nepal Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal among others for discussions on bilateral relations and international issues.
President Maithripala Sirisena arrived at the John F Kennedy Airport in New York last evening amidst tight security, as the city suffered a major security threat with an explosive device going off on the previous day injuring 29 persons.
Minister of Media and Parliamentary Reforms Gayantha Karunathilaka, Minister of Skills Development and Vocational Training Mahinda Samarasinghe and Minister of Local Government and Provincial Councils Faizer Mustapha were among the delegates who joined President Sirisena. Minister of Foreign Affairs Mangala Samaraweera will join the President in New York.
President Maithripala Sirisena is scheduled to address the UN General assembly on Wednesday. This is the second time that President Sirisena will be addressing the UN General Assembly.
