Vaas Gunawardene & 7 Others Indicted

Former Deputy Inspector General of Police Vaas Gunawardene, his son, wife and five other police officers have been handed up indictments over charges of assaulting a student attached to the Malabe Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology.

The indictments were handed up before Colombo High Court Judge Padmini N Ranawaka Gunathilake.

The Judge issued an order to release each Defendant on a 50,000 rupee cash bail and two surety bails worth 500,000 rupees each.

An order was also issued to hand over the passports of all the Defendants excluding the passports of Former DIG Vaas Gunawardene and his son Ravindu Gunawardene.

Followed by this , the Defendants were ordered to appear before the Police Headquarters on the final Saturday of every month.
