A group of UNP MPs have called for a probe on alleged corrupt deals by the Central Bank during the tenure of the former Central Bank Governor Ajith Nivard Cabraal. They pointed out irregular 13 deals and several discrepancies .
These include collecting 90 to 95 percent of the needed funds through issuing of bonds to those, who have made private placement investing US 15.6 Million on Greek bonds in the year 2011, using EPF funds on un healthy investments spending lavishly on foreign trips (including one to the US, which had not brought any benefit) Purchasing fixed assets in the US and Brazil purchasing properties in the vicinity of the Central Bank promises violating financial bills, on the contracts given to the various parties to renovate buildings purchasing vehicles without following due procedure , presenting false accounts of the Financial status of the Central Bank , purchasing gold at exorbitant prices at a time global prices were high and also taking out sacks of five thousand rupees notes from the bank and transporting them using the Governor’ s vehicle.
The MPs have requested the Prime Minister to appoint a commission to carry out these investigation.
