Estate Workers Demonstration Demanding Pay Increase of Rs 1000 Today

Estate workers have  gathered at Narahenpitta and demonstrating demanding Rs 1000 salary increase today, which created traffic jam.
At the same time, section of the estate workers  are continuing their strike for the fourth day today, demanding to increase their daily wages to Rs. 1000, in Hatton, Dikoya, Maskeliya, Bogawanthalawa, Castlereagh, Nuwara Eliya and Narahenpita this morning.
Joint agreement signed between the workers union and the plantation companies has expired on 31st March 2015.  Now more than 17 months lapse still the agreement has not yet been renewed. Plantation companies continued to reject  proposals of the unions . Hence the delay experienced in signing joint agreement. So estate workers keeps on demonstrating in their areas.
