As the trade unions and planters association fail to reach an agreement in increasing the salary of estate workers for more than 17 months, since last ‘’joint agreement ‘’ lapsed. Estate workers have been protesting since September 24th demanding the pay increase.
It has been the order of the day to stage protest in estate sector.
Estate workers in Ragala, Kotagala,Watawala and Kandapola participated in protests this morning(3).
Protestors in Kandapola said, that they will continue to protest if the authorities ignore their request to increase their daily wage.
The Badulla- Colombo road was blocked by the protesters in Haputale town. Heavy traffic reported in this area.
