The Work-to-Rule campaign launched by the Air Traffic Controllers Association over salary anomalies has been called off following discussion with Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation Nimal Siripala De Silva last night(6).
The Air Traffic Controllers attached to the Katunayake, Mattala and Rathmalana airports launched the campaign on Monday. However Air Traffic Controllers suspended the trade union action briefly on Tuesday night following assurances given by the Ministry.
The Association on Wednesday resumed the trade union action saying the Air Traffic Controllers will refrain from directing flights to take the shortest route in order to reach airports. The Association said it re-commenced the Work-to-Rule campaign following failed discussions with authorities.
Chairman of the Association Tharanga Jayasuriya charged that the Airport and Aviation Services took measures to increase salaries of all divisions excluding the Air Traffic Controllers division. He said the Work-to-Rule campaign was launched in protest of the exclusion.
