Is it Free Flight to Ministers?
Nine Ministers and few other officials, who had hired helicopters between January 10, 2015 and April 30th 2016 said to have not made the due payments to the Air Force, Parliament was informed yesterday. This was revealed while replying an allegation made by MP Udaya Gammanpila. He alleged that Ministers Rajitha Senaratne, Faizar Musthafa, John Amarathunga, Gayantha Karunathilaka, Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe, Harin Fernando, Sagala Ratnayaka and Sarath Fonseka had not paid the charges for using air force helicopters. He also alleged other VIPs including Chief Justice, IGP, Arch Bishop Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith and Former President Chandrika Kumaratunga too had not paid the charges. PM Ranil, Former President Mahinda, Minister Wajira Abeywardena and Minister Vijayakala Maheswaran had paid for the use of helicopters. Minister Sagala Ratnayake and CBK had paid for some of their helicopter rides.
When authorities were questioned whether charges will be collected, the answer given was “not relevant” thus avoiding direct answer.
