Illegal Collective Agreement to be signed

Upcountry social activity committee has accused, that  there is an attempt to sign  a collective agreement  valid for 3 years between the plantation companies and trade unions. In this collective agreement along with daily wage of Rs 730 only 3 days work in a week is   guaranteed instead of 6 days in a week enjoyed by the estate workers during the last 30 years under previous collective agreement.

Further the convener lawyer E. Thampaiyah said,  that the daily wage of Rs 1000 not only presented by  CWC . During the last election Prime Minister Ranil said that Rs 1000 should be given to the estate workers. But the Government has not  granted  it. Although companies claim that they  are incurring loss, there Financial statement revealed not so . If they  sign collective agreement against the wish of the estate workers,  they  will rise against it.  Collective agreement is scheduled to be signed on or before 14 th this month.
