Cabinet Approval to Draft a New Bill Replacing PTA

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe on several occasions expressed his wiliness towards replacing the controversial Prevention of Terrorism Act.
Prime Minister  has  made a proposal to draft a new bill replacing PTA.
The Cabinet of Ministers has granted approval to draft a new bill  replacing PTA .
The committee chaired by Minister of Law and Order Sagala Ratnayake will draft  bill  to replace the PTA that will provide adequate provisions for the prevention of terrorism and affirm Sri Lanka’s commitment on the human rights responsibility.
Accordingly the policy framework drafted by the committee will be forwarded to the Sectoral Oversight committee on National Security for further discussions.
