Rathupaswela Shooting Court Determines it a Criminal Act
Rathupaswela shooting case was taken up for inquiry today before the Gampaha Magistrate’s Court.
On the 1st of August 2013, Rathupaswela residents went on demonstration demanding drinking water . Then Government had deployed Army to suppress the demonstration. In this instance two youth died due to gunshot injuries while a third youth died due to blows to the head by blunt objects.
The court today determined that the three youth killed during the protest held in Rathupaswela was a criminal act.
The verdict was issued by the Gampaha Magistrate Kavindya Nanayakkara.
98 firearms that were used by security forces were inspected by the Government Analyst. The Government Analyst accordingly determined that bullets were fired from three firearms.
The case will be taken up once again on the 20th January 2017.
