A Protest Campaign Outside the Colombo District Court

Colombo District Court Judge M. U. Gunawardena on February 05 issued an order restraining the film ‘Usawiya Nihandai’ (Silence in the Courts)   being screened till today after taking into consideration the petition filed by former Magistrate Lenin Ratnayake stating that the film directed by Prasanna Vithanage was based on a false story relating to him and that it defamed the judiciary.

A collective of media and civil organizations are currently carrying out a protest campaign outside the Colombo District Court where a case regarding the film ‘Usawiya Nihandai’ will be taken up for hearing today(19).

The protesters are demanding the restraining order issued on the ‘Usawiya Nihandai film being screened be removed.
