17 National Players Sign the SLC Annual Contracts Today

Earlier, the players refused to sign their respective contracts earlier this week firmly rejecting a new performance-based agreement on offer.
The players were unhappy with the performance based contracts which they claimed will reduce their package substantially. National skipper Mathews and the players have reportedly demanded a ten percent increase in their contract fees.
The new contract sees a substantial reduction in players’ annual contract fees although they have been offered significant win bonuses and individual performance bonuses.
SLC said its decision to introduce pay-cuts was largely motivated by finding that the Board had disbursed around 33 percent of the income among 16 players during the previous contract year.
However SLC issuing a communiqué said the players have now agreed to sign their contracts following discussion with relevant authorities. SLC said the players could finalise formalities later today.
A notable omission from the list of category one national contracts was Lasith Malinga, who only plays ODI and T20 internationals.
Sri Lanka Cricket has announced that 17 national players including Angelo Mathews, Dinesh Chandimal, and Rangana Herath have agreed to sign SLC annual contracts.
The dispute comes just days ahead of the team’s departure to Zimbabwe for a two-match Test series followed by a Tri-Series also involving the West Indies. The Lankan squad is due to leave for Zimbabwe
