Gazette Notification on the Reduction of Prices of 48 Medicinal Drugs Issued.

The gazette notification on the reduction of prices of 48 medicinal drugs has been issued.The Ministry of Health said that  the gazette was issued last night. Accordingly the new price of the 48 drugs will come into effect from today.

Minister of Health and Indigenous Medicine Rajitha Senarathne yesterday signed the gazette notification.

According to the amendment, the prices of 48 medicinal drugs will be reduced by more than 50%.

The Minister said the reduction of prices in 48 drugs comes into effect as part of the first phase of the programme.

He said the cost of medicine would drop by 4,500 million rupees.

He  added steps are being taken to develop drug manufacturing in the island by 75%.The Minister said under the second phase the government will reduce the prices of the most expensive drugs.
