A Deputy Minister Threatened Auditor General?

Auditor General is an independent individual, who is placed in charge of Auditing Ministries, Departments and Semi Governments State Corporations, Statutory Boards, Institutions etc and submit reports to the Parliament. Auditor General is well respected by all.

When the Central Bank Bond report by COPE was discussed   yesterday, Deputy Minister AJith P. Perera reported to have intimidated the Auditor General with the intention of protecting Former Central Bank Governor Arjun Mahendran. He entered into heated argument with the auditor General.

He said, that there is information to the effect that the Auditor General report was prepared against Arjun Mahendran. At one stage he lost his temper and shouted “you are not a Buddha, you are not a God, we are not going to listen what you say but we will do what looks right to us”.

 This has shocked the members of the COPE.
