By sending a copy of the letter addressed to the President in Sinhala to the Union leader of the Jaffna University students had created problem. Northern Province Governor was blamed for sending the Sinhala letter without a Tamil or English translation attached to it.

To their surprise they found, while the Sinhala letter was addressed to the President , Presidential Secretariat , Colombo 1 and the Tamil letter was addressed to the Prime Minister, Prime Ministers Office, Temple Trees , Colombo3.
