Gatekeepers Struck Work From Last Mid Night

There are 687 unprotected railway crossings island-wide. Gatekeepers said to have been  recruited by the department of police. The Government had agreed to increase their  monthly  salaries by Rs 5,000. Now they are paid Rs 9, 000 per month.

The Chairman of the Gatekeepers union J. A. C. Premalal told press as the Government failed to grant promised monthly salary increase of Rs 5,000, they were compelled to struck work  from  mid night last night and continue.
