Pension For Migrant Workers From January 2017

The cabinet has approved the pension scheme for migrant workers finalised by a Committee appointed by the Cabinet of Ministers in 2015, which was proposed by   Thalatha Athukorala, Minister of Foreign Employment. The cabinet also approved to make required amendments to the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE) Act in this regard.

The legal draftsman will draft an act for the proposed pension scheme.

The required funds is  Rs two billion is available in the Kuwait Compensation Fund of the SLBFE. Therefore under this proposed pension scheme a budget allocation is not needed.

The proposed pension scheme for Migrant workers will be effective from January 1, next year.
