Filed FR Petition Against His Arrest Warrant

Former Ambassador to Russia Udayanga Weeratunga has been named a suspect in an alleged financial fraud during the purchase of MiG-27 fighter jets in 2006. He is absconding. Hence,  investigating agencies sought  the assistance o f the Interpol  to arrest him. This was done after obtaining court order.

He  filed a Fundamental Rights application through a power of attorney requesting the Supreme Court to give an interim order against the Interpol arrest warrant issued by the Fort Magistrate recently. Further, he  requested for an order to the Central Bank, preventing the freezing of his bank accounts.
