30% Hike in Water Tariff

Chairman of  National Water Supply and Drainage Board said,  that the water tariff will be increased by 30 %  from  1st  December 2016.
 The increase in water tariffs will take place in accordance with a gazette notification issued on November 2, under the signature of National Water Supply and Drainage Board Chairman K.A. Ansar.
The tariffs paid by Samurdhi beneficiaries will not change for up-to 15 units of consumption.
However,  households that utilise between 16 and 20 units of water will see a tariff increase of eight rupees while the monthly service fee has been increased to Rs.320.
A Rs.17 rupees tariff increase will be felt by households that utilise between 21 and 25 units of water with the monthly service fee for these houses set at Rs.300.
For usage between 26 and 30 units of water the tariff increase will amount to Rs.26  while the monthly service fee has been set at Rs.600.
For non Samurdhi beneficiaries, the tariff increase will be as follows.
Usage of 5 units will result in a Rs.8  tariff increase with the monthly service fee set at Rs.200.
Usage between 6 to 10 units will result in a 5 rupees tariff increase with the monthly service fee set at Rs.185.
Usage between 11 to 14 units will result in a 6 rupees tariff increase with the monthly service fee set at Rs.180.
Usage between 16 to 20 units will result in a Rs.12  tariff increase with the monthly service fee set at Rs. 320.
Usage between 21 to 25 units will result in a 17 rupees tariff increase with the monthly service fee set at Rs.300.
Usage between 26 to 30 units will result in a Rs.26  tariff increase with the monthly service fee set at Rs.600.
However, careful observation of the gazette notification shows that the water tariffs for schools and places of worship would increase by one rupee while the monthly fee has been increased to Rs.250.
