Private Bus Strike Suspended (UPDATE)

The strike by private bus operators which was scheduled to commence tomorrow  has been suspended.
The strike was suspended following discussions held between Minister of Finance Ravi Karunanayake and private bus and three wheel associations.
The strike action was being organised to protest against the minimum fine of 500 rupees for the violation of road regulations being increased to 2,500 rupees through the 2017 Budget.

Private Bus Owners Poised to Strike Tomorrow
Lanka Private Bus Owners Association confirmed today that they will launch a bus strike tomorrow (15)    in opposition to the increase of minimum fine for traffic offenses. The fine was increased from Rs 500 to Rs 2500 by the 2017 Budget proposals.
Finance Minister,   Ravi Karunanayake yesterday insisted that the increase of the fine will not be changed.
