Recently 31, 844 kg of cocaine worth 45 billion was detected recently in the Peliyagoda stores in sugar container imported from Brazil. Three similar detection of cocaine was made when customs checked sugar containers imported from Brazil.
Followed by several detection of Cocaine Smuggling from Brazil, 50 sugar Containers were Detained and closely examined by customs.
However, essential commodities importers association blamed the customs for delaying the release of sugar container from Brazil. As a result 20 % of the sugar importers from Brazil have stopped sugar import from Brazil.
