Water Tariff of 30 % Suspended on President’s Directive
In the budget proposal, water tariff was increased by 30 % and scheduled to come into effect as from 1st December 2016.
President Maithripala Sirisena reported to have directed the subject Cabinet Minister to reconsider this proposal. Accordingly Minister of Water Resources said that a committee has been appointed to look into the matter. Minister of Petroleum Resources Development Chandima Weerakkody has also informed this in a press conference.
Budget proposals of minimum fine of Rs 2, 500 for Motor Traffic offences and 30% increase on Water tariff are to be reversed.
