Why Defeated Candidates Accommodated in National List? President
No one dared to come forward as a common candidate against powerful Mahinda. Those SLFP members of parliament who stood by me were defeated through a well-planned strategy adopted by Mahinda. Hence, I was compelled to appoint them on National list. We formed as good governance government with the support of the 68 lakhs Srilankans. Their aspirations are common. Their thinking are different. When I came forward as a common candidate 49 parties stood by me. They helped us to do 100 day programme. During that period opposition party had 2/3rd majority. Despite it, we managed to pass 19th amendment to the constitution. Now JVP questioned why the Cabinet exceeded 30? I will be the happiest man to do so, if it was possible. Out of 225 people’s representatives, many of them have established connections with the corruption networks. We have to break this networks. Despite these challenges we do what we can. Srilanka press continue to make adverse comments on the Governments. However, we proceed with the work assigned to us by 68 lakhs of Srilankan voters, who elected us. President made above observations while addressing the 30th year completion of Ravaya newspaper in BMICH yesterday.
