Unbelievable Monthly Rent of RS.290 Million to House a Government Office

A female Sinhala film star of the yester year owns a building in Rajagiriya. She developed a friendship with a big shot in the government. Big shot has seen that her building is rented out to house the Government office dealing with Agriculture at a fabulous monthly rent of Rs.290 million. But her building doesn’t have sufficient parking space. Hence, parking space was rented out in an adjoining land at a monthly rent of Rs.3.5 million. On inspecting the building government officers have found office space is insufficient to accommodate the entire staff.

Although the government office is yet to be moved to the building, rent is continued to be paid for building and parking space. Poor farmers are at the receiving end.

Is this not a misuse of public funds under good governance?
