PAFFREL to deploy 1500 election monitors alongside 50 foreign observers

Rohana Hettiarachchi the Executive Director of the People’s Action for Free and Fair Elections (PAFFREL) stated that they plan to deploy 50 foreign election monitors for the upcoming General election. He further stated that they have already arrived at an initial agreement with the Asian election monitoring network and that a total of 1500 election monitors will be deployed at the elections.

The Executive Director further elaborated that their focus was on getting 50 election monitors familiar with the current Socio-economic situation in Sri Lanka. The final decision regarding this will be reached upon discussion with the Elections Commissioner.

PAFFREL have also stated that they plan on meeting the nomination boards of the contesting political parties to discuss meeting the targets set by the March12th Declaration.
