No Gifts For School Teachers From Next year

Minister of Education, Akila Viraj Kariyawasam addressed  during an event at a school in Kuliyapitiya, said,  that a new circular will be issued prohibiting school teachers from receiving gifts from students or collecting money on various occasions, starting next year 2017 .

He pointed out that collecting money from students in that manner poses a threat to the right of free education and that this move is aimed at preventing any undue mental pressure on school children.
He further  said,  that the decision was taken after considering the sensitive requests received from parents.
