The JVP has requested the government to table reports by investigative bodies appointed to investigate certain incidents reported during the United People’s Freedom Alliance led government
Speaking during the Committee Stage debate of the 2017 Budget proposal in Parliament today JVP MP Vijitha Herath said the delay in submitting the the reports is questionable.
The twenty one year old Roshan Chanaka was shot dead by the Police while participating in a protect march against a Government proposal insisting that it was a mandatory plan to “provide all employees in the private sector a pension to maintain a decent lifestyle upon retirement”
MP Herath stated the Human Rights commission said, it would complete the investigations’ launched pertaining to the murder of Roshan Chanaka in two weeks, adding what took place was a murder.
The MP said a special presidential committee was appointed headed by Judge Mahanama Thilakaratne, and there was nothing stopping anyone from handing over the relevant report, as it is not classified as a sensitive issue.
He reiterated the relevant report along with the report on the shooting which took place in the prison should also made available to the public.
The Parliamentarian said a committee was also appointed into the Rathupaswala shooting but as of now there aren’t any official reports that have been submitted, only unofficial ones.
He added official reports must be submitted, as only then will the public know what had really happened in those incidents .
