Five More Private Medical Colleges in Srilanka?

University Students and JVP are opposed to the setting up of Private Medical colleges in the Country. SAITM students had filed lawsuits in the Supreme Court in wake of the Srilanka Medical Council deciding to refuse recognizing their medical degrees from SAITM.

In the meantime Minister Kiriella said, five more Medical Colleges have expressed their willingness to invest in higher education in Srilanka subject to the Court ruling.

A Parlimentary committee had proposed that SAITM be operated on the basis of a private – public partnership.
