Steps to Eliminate Beggars in Kataragama Sacred Site

Certain  groups  or persons  are  involved  in deploying  children, disabled persons and elders  for  begging.  They get a good return at the end of the day. They provide food and shelter  to beggars.  They bring  beggars in vehicles  and  deploy them  early in the morning .

In order  to   eradicate begging nuisance  Kataragama divisional secretariat has taken a decision in the right direction with the help of Kataragama police,  beggars at Kataragama sacred site  were arrested yesterday.

Twenty-three individuals including fifteen children, which include 9 girls and 6 boys were arrested and  they will be produced at the Tissamaharama Magistrate’s Court.
