Weather Forecast For 12th December 2016

The very severe cyclonic storm (“VARDAH”) in the Bay of Bengal is located (approximately 13.1 N, 81.9E)around 400 km away from Kankasanturai coast, to the north-east of Sri Lankaand it is likely to cross Chennai coast on today evening.

There is no direct effect to the weather in Sri Lanka from this cyclone, but due to the above systemthe sea waves can be risen some extent (1-2m) in the Gulf of Mannar and the sea area close to the Kankasanthurai coast   .

Strong winds at times (up to 50-60kmph)can be expected over the island.

Showers will occur at several places in the, Western, North –Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central and Southern provinces and in the Jaffna district.
