Dry Weather Affects Hydro Electricity Output

Production of hydro electricity has significantly reduced owing to the prevalent dry weather conditions.

Secretary to the Ministry of Power and Renewable Energy Dr.Suren Batagoda said that the water levels of the tanks used for the production of hydro electricity have dropped by 80% in comparison to last year.

He added that in this situation the government has taken steps to purchase electricity from the private sector.

The Secretary to the Ministry also requested the general public to use electricity sparingly.
