5092 Members to be Elected in 4833 Division in LG Election

Delimitation Review Committee report  is said to be  handed over  to the Minister of Local Government and Provincial Councils, President’s Council Faiszer Musthapha on 27 December.

Committee  Chairman , Ashoka Peiris  said, that the entire country has been divided up into 4833 divisions for the local government elections and will return 5092 members to the these Institutions.There are 24 divisions among the 4833 where one member will be elected and 09 divisions where three members will be elected. He also said each division consists of one or more Grama Niladhari Divisions and that is how the delimitation has been done.

Within the district of Colombo there are four local government institutions, the Colombo Municipal Council, Sri Jayawardenapura (Kotte), Dehiwela-Mount Lavinia and Moratuwa. The main one which is the Colombo Municipal Council comprises of 47 divisions. Fifty three municipal councilors will be elected to this Council.
