Dead Line to Obtain SLS Certificate for Helmets
Most of the deaths caused in motor cycle accidents found to be due to substandard helmet used by motor cyclists. Hence, Chairman of National Council for Safety Dr.Sisira Gotagoda announced that a deadline is fixed to obtain Srilanka Standards Certificate to produce and sell helmets, which is 31/12/16. There are six SLS helmets manufacturer in Srilanka and only 2 of them have applied and obtained SLS certificates. Steps have been taken to register and issue SLS certificate to other 4 manufacturers.
As from 1st January 2017 Manufacturing and selling of helmets without SLS certificate will be banned completely, said Dr.Sisira Gotagoda.
