Followed by exposure in Private media regarding IGP’s private talk with a politician under taking not to arrest a particular person, IGP reported to have instructed to send daily police bulletins only to state media institutions .
IGP came under criticism for this decision. The National Police Commission Secretary , Aariyathasa Cooray joined the forum and stated that police was under obligation to provide police bulletins to private media institutions, especially when the Right to Information act is in effect in the country.
However, under these circumstances the police department has announced yesterday, that the IGP, Poojith Jeyasundara had not issued an order restricting daily police bulletins to private media institution.
But , since last Tuesday (20) most private media organizations did not receive regular police news updates and no reason was given for such a move.
