SLT Recruitments Denied to Manpower Employees

While a press conference of SLT trade unions was in progress   at the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute (SLFI) yesterday, the man power employees of HCS suddenly  infiltrated  and   attended the conference to express their objections.
Manpower employees attached to Human Capital Solutions (HCS) said all 2,100 employees at HCS should be recruited to the Sri Lanka Telecom (SLT) and added they will continue to protest if their demands were not met.
A member of the HCS trade union, Saliya Subasinghe said he has been working for the SLT for the past 12 years as a Technical Assistant.
The SLT had denied recruiting him,  as he has exceeded the age limit according to the staff recruitment and promotion scheme (SRPS), he said.
“I joined HCS which is affiliated to the SLT in 2005, when I was 28 year-old. My age was one of the reasons they pointed out for not being able to recruit me. But I was serving the SLT for the past 12 years. I have a family. I do not have any other ways,”  said one employee .
A driver at the SLT, also a member of the HCS trade union, G.S.A Appuhami said: “There was a time where people who could climb lamp posts were given jobs at the SLT. There are several people in high positions at the SLT without adequate qualifications.”
“It is only a few individuals in the SLT trade unions who are blocking the process of recruiting the man power employees. They do not understand the problems that we face,” he said.
