Amended Development (Special Provisions) Bill to Cabinet

The Ministry of National Policies and Economic Affairs is planning to submit an amended Development (Special Provisions) Bill to the Cabinet when it next convenes on 3 January next year, sources said.
The sources added, the decision to submit an amended Bill to Cabinet had been taken on the advice of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.
Most SLFP Ministers in the government had publicly censured certain contents in the controversial Bill and they had vowed to oppose it in Parliament. The Bill was also rejected by eight Provincial Councils recently.
Sources said, once the amended Bill was submitted to the Cabinet the PM will subsequently table the Bill in Parliament as well.
