Delimitation Committee Report To Faizer Mustapha Today

The Chairman,  Asoka Peiris said the delimitation committee  report will be submitted to  Minister of Minister of Local Governments and Provincial Councils Faizer Mustapha  at 11 this morning.

Concerns were expressed on several occasions that  the Delimitation Committee attempted to submit delayed  report.

The Committee attributed the delay to several issues including, opposition by various factions on the proposed boundaries and challenges in obtaining accurate information to recommend new wards for local government bodies.

He said through the new report, the Committee has recommended the government to establish 4,833 constituencies.

Accordingly 5,022 local government representatives will be elected with the implementation of the report compiled by the National Delimitation Committee.
