Decision on Fighter Jets Purchase for SL Air Force Yet to be Made
on 9th August 2016 cabinet approval was granted to purchase eight multi-purpose fighter jets for Sri Lanka Air Force.
The Sri Lanka Air Force is currently in the possession of seven Kafir jets. Six of them however are reportedly “not operational”.
Secretary of Defence, Karunasena Hettiarachchi said, studies are being conducted to ascertain whether the Sri Lanka Air Force should purchase fighter jets or not. No final decision has been taken on this matter.
