Delimitation Committee Final Report Handed over to Mustapha

Delimitation Committee Final Report Handed over to Mustapha

The Delimitation Committee has handed over its final demarcation report to Minister of Local Government and Provincial Councils Faizer Mustapha.  The final report was handed over bearing the signatures of all members.
The publication of the report of the committee set up to look into complaints arising from delimitation of new wards was delayed on several occasions.
The committee attributed the delay to several issues including, opposition by various factions on the proposed boundaries and challenges in obtaining accurate information to recommend new wards for Local Government bodies.
However, following the completion of the report, the National Delimitation Committee was slated to hand over the report to the Minister of Local Governments and Provincial Councils Faizer Mustapha.
The Local Government Minister refused to accept the report on the 2nd of January claiming that a main political party member of the committee had not signed the demarcation report.
Representative of the United National Party, Attorney S. Misbah had not signed the report. Accordingly, the Local Government Minister determined the report as illegal.
Subsequently, the report was handed over to all committee members, while a copy of the report with the signatures of all five members was handed over to Minister Faizer Mustapha this evening(17).
