Maithripala Sirisena is a politician who has rocked the political world in recent times. The day he prefers to make headlines is usually a Friday. He first stepped out to oppose Mahinda Rajapakse on a Friday and he released manifesto on a Friday. He decided to dissolve the Parliament on a Friday.

The decision to dissolve Parliament was one made after many secret meetings, with PM Ranil Wickramasinghe then the Elections Commissioner Mahinda Deshapriya and also with Examinations Commissioner W.M.N.J Pushpakumara to discuss the impact an election would have on the G.C.E A/L examination if held in August.

Post these secret meetings a discussion between Maithri and Ranil resulted in finalizing the details for a date for the election and for the gazette announcement.
