Court Decided to Inquire into Avant Garde Armoury Case in Damayanthi Jayaratne’s Absentia

The Bribery Commission  has filed a case  in the Colombo Chief Magistrate Court  against  Gotabahya  Rajapaksha, former Chairman of Avant Garde Nissanka Senadhipathi ,  six others and  Former Additional Secretary of the Defence Ministry Damayanthi Jayaratne ,  who is named as the second suspect  for maintained a floating armoury off the southern coastal belt and thus causing the state a loss of Rs 1.14 billion was taken up for hearing  yesterday.
The officers of the Bribery Commission  informed the Court that the  second  accused   Damayanthi Jayaratne had fled the country with her family.
Having considered the submissions made by the   Bribery Commission   officials  ,  Colombo Chief Magistrate Lal Bandara allowed the case to be heard without the presence of the suspect.
 The case was postponed to  15th March 2017.
