Cardinal Ranjith is Against Abortion

 While speaking at an event in Kalutara, Colombo Archbishop Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith said  today  that  he would not endorse any move to legalise abortion.

The Cardinal said the Scripture was very clear on the matter – with ‘Thou shalt not kill’ featuring among the Ten Commandments.

The Archbishop said adherents should be committed to a spiritual life and not only when convenient. He said they should not discard the Scripture at other times.

He said that a spiritual life was essential for preserving Sri Lankan culture, and that without a spiritual life, it would be impossible to weed out the darker elements of society. He made  this observation  during the function where he   was invited as Chief Guest.
