The All Island Eatery Owners Association states that they proposed to take steps to close down all eateries in the Colombo District on coming Sunday (19) to register their protest on the following issues:-

Requesting the state not to wait until the problem arise, but issue paddy purchased from farmers well in time to convert into rice.

To stop forthwith issue of paddy for beer production.

To bring Consumer Protection Authority under the purview of the President.

To continue to provide food on concessionary prices in campuses, Government Departments, Medical faculty, etc. They should be given rice and other essentials on subsidized prices.

All essential food items should be made available freely in island wide co-operative societies .
Thousands of Colombo workers depending on eateries will be badly affected by this proposed close down on Sunday(19).
