Request Not to Fix Two Different Prices for Local & Imported Rice..
All Ceylon Peasants’ Federation has requested the Government not to fix two different prices for imported and local rice Federation’s organizer, Namal Karunaratna said, that during the talk between the Government and Rice millers a suggestion was made to fix different prices for imported and local rice . They requested price of white rice to be fixed at Rs 78per kilo, country rice to be fixed at Rs 80 per kilo and sampa rice at Rs 95 per kilo. However, approval had not been given for this request, said Federation’s National Organizer Namal Karunaratna. If rice is sold at two different prices, possibility of traders selling low priced imported rice at higher priced country rice to the public. Hence, he requested the Government to introduce a mechanism to cross check this rice mafia.
