President Discloses Why He Removed Mohan Peiris?
President Maithripala Sirisena disclosed yesterday, that the first action he took using his executive powers after assuming office as President was to remove former chief justice Mohan Peiris, because he came and begged him not to remove him from his post and expressed his willingness to do anything what President wanted. What does it means ?Any judgement could be delivered according to the wish of the President as done in the past.
Mohan Peiris visited him at 10pm at his residence after he assumed duties on January 9, 2015 and asked him not to remove him from his post of CJ and in return to do whatever president wants in the Judicial Service. He revealed this while addressing a public meeting in Warakapola.
He told him there was no intention of removing him from his post and requested him to leave his residence,” the president said. However, he returned the next day and begged me not to remove him from his post. Then only I realised how these people had been in the habit of giving judgments to suit the previous regime. Therefore, I decided to remove him from his post at once, using my executive powers for the first time, he concluded.
