BASL Election Mahinda Vs Basil

The election of office-bearers of the Bar Association of Sri Lanka will be held shortly. While Mahinda  Rajapaksa  backs  U.R. de Silva, Basil Rajapaksa backs the group led by Thangaraja.

Thangaraja has been close  friend of  Basil since the time the latter worked at the Mahaweli Ministry during the Gamini Dissanayake period,  and is his closest legal advisor.

Basil’s coordinating officer, lawyer Jayasinghe is leading the campaign on behalf of Thangaraja.

He is also having the support of the four leading lawyers associations in Colombo.

His rival de Silva has the backing of Gunaratne of the Colombo district court and the lawyers association of Galle.
