President Directs IGP to Assist Universities to Eradicate Ragging

Ragging was used as an instrument to  introduce    new  students  to senior students in a most decent manner  in earlier days.  It was confined to talk only and no physical  torture . But now  ragging  has taken a different turn with physical  torture  resulting  in injuries and even on death.
Sri Lankan universities have seen a rise of student ragging in recent months as the seniors carry out various cruel acts to be performed by the freshers.
Recently, 15 students involved in such a ragging incident on the fresh students from the Peradeniya Agriculture Faculty were arrested and remanded.
President Maithripala Sirisena  has  directed  IGP today to assist the University authorities  to eradicate ragging  from  Universities.
