Increased Compensation for Elephant Attacks

During the past 12 years, an estimated 1,464 elephants have been killed, while 672 persons have lost their lives in elephant attacks.
Minister of Sustainable Development and Wildlife Gamini Jayawickrama Perera has submitted  a cabinet paper to increase  compensation for lives lost and properties destroyed by elephant attack.
The Cabinet of Ministers has recently approved the increase.
Accordingly,  for human deaths and permanent disabilities compensation of  Rs. 200,000/- to Rs. 500,000/-, was approved.
