Accelerated Rice Raids in 1762 Pettah Trade Centres paid dividend

On guidance given by the Minister of Industry and Commerce, Rishad Bathiudeen, officers of the
Consumer Protection Authority carry out rice raids on an accelerated basis. In raids carried out on
Friday (24), thirty three traders were detected selling rice over maximum fixed price gazetted.
Today, Saturday (25) Officers of the Consumer Protection Authority raided 1762 trade centres in
Pettah and recovered 3000 Kg of rice sold over maximum fixed price plus 2600 Kg of date expired
rice . Court cases are being filed against unscrupulous traders, News bulletine issued by the Ministry
of Industry and Trade revealed.
